Transact Credit Union has just made it simpler than ever for customers to access our online banking system by giving them the option of whether or not to use the “virtual” keyboard when logging in.
Transact Credit Union has just made it simpler than ever for customers to access our online banking system by giving them the option of whether or not to use the “virtual” keyboard when logging in.
The virtual keyboard has been in place since Transact Credit Union launched their online banking service more than 10 years ago.
Until now, when entering their password to log into internet banking, customers would click on the characters via a virtual keyboard that moved around the screen.
It was initially introduced as a security precaution, to help guard against malicious software used to log keystrokes.
However, modern malicious software or malware has significantly advanced beyond simple key logging techniques.
Considering these advancements and changes to Transact Credit Union’s online security environment, customers now have the option of signing in with or without the virtual keyboard.
CEO Mr John Minz said that customers will be able to choose to enter their password straight into the boxes at the log-in screen, using their computer’s keyboard, rather than using the virtual keyboard.
“With the changes in our security environment, we decided to make it easier for customers to log in, while still giving them the choice,” he said.
"This change will make it a lot quicker and easier to log in.
“This is something that many customers have asked for and we are pleased we are able to deliver for them.
“However, if you still feel strongly about entering your password via a virtual keyboard, you can still choose to use it.
“To do so, you can simply select the ‘Use Virtual Keyboard’ option when you reach the log in page.”
This change currently only applies to the password log-in screen. Customers will continue to be required to use a virtual keyboard when they enter their “pay anyone” password to authorise payments.
Customers can also register for SMS security to receive One Time Passwords for pay anyone features, removing the need to remember and enter password via the virtual keyboard.
